KK and Kristin's Naruto Recs!
Yeah, the background looks kinda crappy on my computer... You should... I dunno... Change it... Or something. There's nothing wrong with solid colors. -_-;
BTW Kristin... The Persistance of Vision was absolutely gorgeous and heart-wrenching and I absolutely LOVED it. Thanks.
Title: One Winter Evening
Comments: Woah... Just woah. This is one of the best KakaIru fics I have ever read. It's beautiful and sad and bittersweet. The alegories and symbology and writing are gorgeous. The feeling is consistant and nostalgic and very true to the situation. Even more, there's something that holds true in real life in this fic, sort of a slice existing mixed with a moral. The things we never say and how important they are, and how we miss out on things as a result of not saying them... It's so true in real life. And just... Wow. Kristin, I know you're not the KakaIru fan that I am, but read this fic, if it's the only KakaIru fic you read, it's so pretty and pertinent (to life).
Title: In Peril
Rating: PG-ish... Just for language.
Characters/Pairings: Just Team 7.
Comments: Silly. Sasuke and Naruto's interaction just amused me to no end. Although it's incredibly short I think it does a good job of capturing Team 7 dynamics. Especially the way Naruto and Sasuke can make the jump from yelling at eachother to working together in but a few seconds. Cute little one-minute comedy.
Title: Yellow Strings
Comments: Humorous and cute. Another one-minute comedy, but shonen-ai in nature this time. We learn in this fic that Sasuke has good domestic skills. I can see that, anyway.
Title: Metaphors for a Rainy Day
Comments: This is definatly one of the best and most believable KakaIru fanfic I have read. Which says a lot. KakaIru is really hard to do right. It either turns into a soap opera, which is not believable at all because the characters turn into pod-people, or it uses bad sterotypes, or in a rare case, it's actually well-done, but isn't really a KakaIru fic except vaguely. Iruka, I have found, seems to have more masculine traits than Kakashi, even if he's not on the same level as Kakashi. This fic does a nice job of not turning him into a blushing, crying little girl. That's reason enough to read it. Iruka-rape is just not okay on so many levels.
Title: I'm Only Happy When it Rains
Comments: What is it with good KakaIru fic titles pertaining to rain? In any case, this is another good one. Again, believable characterazation (There be no character-rape here), and pretty writing, other than the odd underscores that are littered throughout the fic... Eh, it's not too bad though. Overall enjoyable, and a good read.
Title: The Autumn of Our Virility
Characters/Pairings: KakaIru, Gai
Comments: Absolutely hysterical. Perfect characterazation of Gai, who, I imagine, is a tricky character to write without stereotyping. Absurd situation, and eventual KakaIru. What more can a fangirl ask for? *Coughsasunarucough*
Characters/Pairings: LeeSaku Examination
Comments: I can't seem to decide on whether or not the writing is good or bad. Nevertheless, I'm reccing this for the last line alone. It's sweet and I think it's an interesting way to view LeeSaku.
Characters/Pairings: Iruka, Naruto
Comments: This fic is simply... Good in every way that a fic can be good (Other than the fact that it doesn't have any pairings in it. It's good in every way a General fic can be good, then). It's sweet and sad and realistic. There was also something very touching about it. Iruka's perspective is effective and he's perfectly in character. The writing is nice as well. It just hits something deep in me. Maybe it's because I like Iruka more than the average person, or perhaps it's because this is a less melodramatic illustration of Naruto's childhood, or maybe both. It's especially nice how the author doesn't make Iruka out to be a completely flawless man who has always accepted Naruto, hence the more realistic aspect of this particular fic. It's just good.
Title: "Your Hair"
Comments: There was just something that got to me about this fic. The idea of Iruka crying completely justifiably (And the author does have a strange but effective way of justifying it), and the points the author makes about death to those who kill others on a regular baisis really struck home. Plus, there's something simplistic yet pretty about the writing style used. It touched me on a weird level.
Title: Art of Losing
Characters/Pairings: SasuNaru, Sakura
Comments: I almost didn't put this one up... There's many aspects I like about this fic, but there's also something unameable that I really dislike about it. What made me post this one, is because I have often thought about writing a fic similar to this, by which I mean: Sakura 2nd Person POV on Sasuke and Naruto's relationship. This is very sad, in a fairly believable way.
Title: Happy Are the Ignorant
Characters/Pairings: SasuNaru, Sakura
Comments: This is a bit like "Art of Losing", except instead of trying to fool herself Sakura has successfully fooled herself, hence the title. For some reason I like this one more than the other one. Poor Sakura.
Title: Love is the Strongest Energy
Characters/Pairings: KakaIru, Everyone else
Comments: This is another one of those fics, where I'm not so sure how IC the characters are, but I couldn't help but rec it because it's so damn funny. Involves Soap-Opera-Addicted!Sasuke, Traumatized!Naruto, Confused!Kakashi, Really Confused!Iruka and Gai just being Gai. It's pretty witty and fun to read, even if it's not the most monumental of fanfiction out there.
Title: The sea isn't blue
Characters/Pairings: Team 7, Slight SasuNaru vibes
Comments: I dunno what struck me about this particular fic. It just hit some chord. It was really depressing, bordering on demented the first time I read it, although, in actuality it's just a little bit bittersweet. Maybe it's the rhetoric or something that gave me that original impression, or maybe it's the weird feeling that Naruto is still alone even when he's not. I have no idea where I come up with this stuff. Anyway, it renders some nice mental imagary.
That's all from me tonight. Mostly KakaIru... Neh. Whatever. Tired...
